What is DYD?
Our Mission Statement: Drop Your Dress is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to bringing hope to and empowering teens with terminal and debilitating illnesses by providing an experience they might not otherwise be able to participate in—namely, a prom-style party with all the health provisions and precautions taken care of. Our goal is to provide these teens with a night that is worry-free, stress-free, and something they will never forget.
The Board of Directors is composed primarily of high school students, and was founded by two teenage girls with a passion to do something bigger than themselves. Out of all people groups, teenagers have the biggest, most influential voice. When teens speak up, step up and make a change, people notice. When adults notice teens doing something bigger than themselves, they are inspired to do something. DYD is more than just throwing a party and having fun; it is about showing people that the ability to change the world is less about age, income or IQ than it is about passion. At the heart of every successful company or corporation is someone with fervor for a product or output. At the heart of Drop Your Dress is fervor for change, hope, and the empowerment of the powerless.
